su-sur-rus noun
whispering, murmuring, or rustling
We, all of us, are guided by the whisperings that surround us. They are the voices of our parents, our friends, our culture. They are the winds that fill our sails, the undercurrents pushing at our rudder, the storm clouds building on the horizon, and the stars, billions of miles away, by which we navigate. When I learned of this word, susurrus, and it’s meaning, I began to hear the whisperings all around me; some that I wanted to silence and others I urged to speak louder. These poems are some of those whisperings.
